Sources & Methodology

Overview

PetTravelRules.com compiles pet travel policy data from publicly available official sources. The database covers 168 airlines and 223 countries. Data is reviewed and updated periodically, but may not reflect the most current requirements at the time of travel. Always verify directly with your airline and the relevant government authority before making travel arrangements.

Airline data sources

Airline pet policy data is sourced from official airline websites, including published cabin and cargo pet policy pages, booking conditions, and customer service documentation. Where official documentation is ambiguous or unavailable, this is noted on the relevant airline page.

Data points collected for each airline include: cabin pet acceptance, cargo pet acceptance, accepted pet types, weight limits including carrier, carrier size requirements, applicable fees, breed restrictions, seasonal embargoes, and booking procedure.

Country data sources

Country pet import requirements are sourced from official government websites, including national veterinary authorities, border control agencies, and ministry of agriculture publications. Where multiple official sources exist, the most restrictive requirement is noted.

Data points collected for each country include: accepted microchip standards, required vaccinations, health certificate requirements, quarantine rules, import permit requirements, and restricted or prohibited breeds.

Personal Pet Travel Plans

Personal Pet Travel Plans are generated on the basis of the reference database and the specific details provided by the user at the time of purchase. Each plan is reviewed by a person before delivery. Plans reflect information available at the time of preparation and should be verified with official sources before travel.

Update frequency

Airline data is reviewed every three to six months and updated when policy changes are identified. Country data is reviewed every six months. Individual pages may be updated sooner if a significant policy change is identified.

Users who identify inaccurate or outdated information are encouraged to contact info@pettravelrules.com.

Limitations

This platform does not cover private charter flights, military pet transport, or live animal freight services. Emotional support animal policies are not covered, as these are no longer recognised as a separate category by most airlines.
